The National Media Authority has launched a nationwide campaign to raise awareness of media content standards as the rapid growth of digital platforms and generative artificial intelligence reshapes the UAE’s media landscape.
The initiative, part of the 2026 National Campaign to Raise Awareness of Media Content Standards, began with a community media majlis at Al Mushrif Majlis in Abu Dhabi in collaboration with Majalis Abu Dhabi.
Speaking during the session, Dr. Jamal Mohammed Al Kaabi, Secretary-General of the National Media Authority, said unified standards had become increasingly necessary at a time when “anyone can become a content creator or influencer.”
He said the standards were intended to serve as a transparent benchmark for responsible content creation that respects national values, privacy and regulatory requirements while maintaining accuracy and credibility.
Generative AI accelerates regulatory focus
The campaign comes as Gulf regulators and media organisations increasingly focus on the implications of AI-generated content, social media influence and the rapid expansion of creator-led digital ecosystems.
Dr. Al Kaabi said the timing of the campaign reflected the fast evolution of media production tools and the wider adoption of generative AI technologies.
“At a time when anyone can become a content creator or influencer in a specific field, unified and approved standards are essential,” he said.
He added that the UAE’s media professionals and influencers played an important role as representatives of the country’s identity, values and development ambitions.
The Authority said the awareness campaign would continue across all seven emirates in coordination with media offices, cultural institutions and free zones, targeting both citizens and residents. The
Campaign aims to strengthen responsible media practices
According to the National Media Authority, the initiative seeks to strengthen understanding of legal frameworks governing media activities while reducing violations caused by limited awareness of regulations.
Dr. Al Kaabi described the campaign as a strategic step aligned with the UAE’s legislative and regulatory framework, adding that content creators and social media users had become “key partners” in shaping the country’s media environment.
He said the standards were designed to protect the integrity of the national media landscape while supporting the competitiveness of the sector and contributing to the wider economy.
The Authority also said the campaign aimed to reinforce Emirati values and societal principles through broader awareness of the UAE Media Content Standards.
Creators gathering highlighted expanding digital media ecosystem
The campaign follows a series of recent UAE initiatives focused on strengthening the country’s creative and digital media sectors, including the latest Creators Gathering, which brought together influencers, media professionals and digital entrepreneurs to discuss the future of content creation in the region.
The gathering reflected the UAE’s wider push to position itself as a regional and global hub for creators, digital media businesses and emerging technology-led content industries.
Officials at recent industry events have increasingly highlighted the need to balance creative freedom and innovation with responsible publishing standards as AI-generated media and platform-driven content continue to grow rapidly.
