When the draft goes live: Unilever job ad leaves internal instructions in public view

Even the world’s biggest marketers are not immune to the occasional copy-and-paste mishap.

A LinkedIn job advertisement posted by Unilever for a senior marketing role in Dubai has drawn attention after appearing to publish what looks like an unfinished recruitment template complete with internal notes, placeholders and instructions that were never meant for public consumption.

The listing for “Hair Demand Creation Lead – Beauty & Wellbeing Arabia” reads like a standard corporate job description until readers reach the bottom, where things take an unexpected turn.

Among the text visible to applicants are instructions apparently intended for recruiters, including: “TA must insert further details regarding role location, right to work requirements” and “ARE YOU INTERESTED? (Copy only for Internal Post).” The ad also contains unfinished placeholders such as “Relocation Clause” and “Compensation and benefits Clause (if any),” suggesting parts of the template were never completed before publication.

The opening section of the advertisement also appears as a lengthy block of text with little formatting, giving the impression that editing and quality-control checks may have been skipped.

While there is no evidence that artificial intelligence created the errors, the posting reflects a growing challenge facing organisations rushing content from draft stage to publication. In an era when AI tools can generate job descriptions in seconds, the value of a final human review has never been greater.

For a company whose brands spend billions communicating with consumers, the episode serves as a reminder that sometimes the most important marketing tool remains the humble proofread.

As marketing professionals often joke: AI may write the first draft, but somebody still needs to read the last one.
