Saudi Arabia’s Manga Productions has launched the remake of the Japanese horror game Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly across the Middle East and North Africa, expanding the region’s access to internationally developed video games, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Manga Productions, a subsidiary of the Mohammed bin Salman Foundation (Misk), is acting as the regional publisher for the title in collaboration with Japanese developer KOEI TECMO and its studio Team NINJA.
The game is now available on multiple platforms, including Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch 2, according to a company statement cited by SPA.
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly REMAKE is a horror adventure title that follows the story of twin sisters who become trapped in an abandoned village haunted by spirits. Players use a supernatural camera known as the Camera Obscura to capture and defeat the ghosts while uncovering the village’s hidden past.
The remake includes upgrades to visuals, sound design and gameplay mechanics, alongside improved controls designed to create a more immersive experience.
Developers have also introduced a new feature titled “Holding Hands with Mayu,” which highlights the relationship between the two sisters and adds an emotional dimension to the gameplay.
The title is currently available in several languages including Japanese, English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Chinese and Korean. Manga Productions said an Arabic version of the game is scheduled for release in the second quarter of this year.
Bashayr Alsubaie, content distribution and acquisition manager at Manga Productions, said the launch reflects the company’s ongoing partnership with Japanese developers.
“This launch reflects the strength of our continued partnership with KOEI TECMO and Team NINJA,” Alsubaie said in the statement. “Together, we remain committed to bringing world-class titles to MENA and delivering them with the highest localization standards, including full Arabic support.”
The game is being released in two editions: a standard version and a digital deluxe edition.
The launch is part of Manga Productions’ broader strategy to expand its presence in the regional gaming industry by publishing globally recognised titles and strengthening partnerships with international developers.
Saudi Arabia has been increasing its investment in the gaming and entertainment sectors in recent years as part of broader efforts to diversify its economy and develop creative industries under its Vision 2030 programme.
