Google introduces privacy-focused Personal Intelligence in Arab markets

Google has announced the launch of Personal Intelligence to users in the Arab world, extending a feature introduced earlier this year in the United States to its Gemini app.

The feature securely connects information from apps such as Gmail and Google Photos to enhance Gemini’s functionality, allowing users to control which applications are linked. Each connection is designed to improve the system’s ability to deliver tailored responses.

Personal Intelligence is built around two core capabilities: reasoning across complex data sources and retrieving specific details from content such as emails or photos. The system can combine these functions, working across text, images and video to generate personalized answers.

The feature can assist users with tasks such as recommending books or creating travel itineraries by drawing on their past activity and preferences, the company said.

Google said privacy was central to the design. App connections are turned off by default, and users must opt in, select which apps to link, and can disable the feature at any time. When activated, Gemini accesses data only to respond to specific queries or perform user-requested tasks.

Because the data remains within Google’s existing systems, users do not need to transfer sensitive information externally to enable personalization, the company added.

Gemini will also indicate the sources of its responses, allowing users to verify how answers were generated.

Personal Intelligence is now available to subscribers of Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra plans in the Arab world, with a broader rollout to free users expected in the coming weeks. Users must manually enable the feature through the app’s settings menu.
