Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled a new artificial intelligence-powered retail solution that enables businesses to build their own conversational shopping assistants, drawing on technology and insights developed through Amazon’s Alexa for Shopping platform.

Called the Agentic Shopping Assistant on AWS, the solution provides retailers with architecture guidance, starter code, and support from AWS experts, allowing them to deploy AI-powered shopping experiences in a matter of weeks rather than years.

According to AWS, the platform is based on lessons learned from Amazon’s AI shopping assistant, which served more than 300 million customers last year and contributed nearly $12 billion in incremental sales.

The new offering allows retailers to integrate their own product data, business rules, and brand identity to create customized shopping assistants tailored to their customers and product catalogues.

AWS said conversational shopping experiences are becoming increasingly important as AI tools play a larger role in consumer purchasing decisions. The company cited data showing that conversational shopping sessions generate conversion rates 3.5 times higher than traditional keyword-based searches.

Among the early adopters is fashion brand Kate Spade, which used the solution to launch an AI-powered Gift Concierge. Developed in partnership with AWS, the assistant helps shoppers find gift recommendations through natural conversations about occasions, recipients, and personal preferences.

The Gift Concierge was built using Amazon Bedrock AgentCore and underwent approximately two and a half months of testing before its public launch. AWS said the experience was informed by customer interactions and insights gathered from Alexa for Shopping.

The Agentic Shopping Assistant is powered by AWS services including Amazon Bedrock, AgentCore, and OpenSearch. AWS said the technology has been validated through billions of shopping interactions on Amazon.com.

The company added that retailers can typically deploy the solution in about 60 days with support from the AWS Generative AI Innovation Center.

AWS said the initiative is aimed at helping retailers maintain direct relationships with customers and strengthen their own digital shopping experiences as AI-driven commerce continues to evolve.
