Korean beauty products, popularly known as K-Beauty, are witnessing rapid global expansion, with value sales rising 53% year-on-year and 131% over the past two years, according to a new report by global consumer intelligence company NIQ.

The report, K-Beauty Goes Global, says the category has evolved from a niche cultural trend into a major force reshaping the global beauty industry through ingredient-led innovation, social commerce and digitally driven consumer demand.

The Middle East emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets, recording 76% e-commerce growth. NIQ attributed this to high social media engagement, strong demand for premium, results-oriented products, and a favourable regulatory and logistics environment. Africa, meanwhile, remains an emerging market supported by specialist retailers, niche beauty stores and increasing consumer interest in ingredient-led skincare.

The report found that K-Beauty’s international growth is also being fuelled by social commerce. According to TikTok Shop data cited by NIQ, searches for K-Beauty in the UK increased by 125% in 2025. Across the UK, the US, Spain and Germany, value sales of K-Beauty brands on TikTok Shop surged 430% year-on-year, highlighting the growing influence of content-driven shopping platforms.

Eastern Europe is also seeing strong demand, supported by e-commerce, cross-border retail and younger consumers seeking new beauty formats, along with rising awareness of Korean skincare routines.

NIQ said K-Beauty has transformed consumer preferences by popularising products such as sheet masks, acne patches, essences, serums and ampoules, while ingredients including snail mucin, centella asiatica and PDRN have moved beyond specialist audiences into mainstream skincare.

The report also noted that Korean beauty brands have raised consumer expectations by offering affordable, high-performance products, introducing innovations at a faster pace and integrating product discovery more closely with online commerce.

“K-Beauty has moved beyond trend status to become one of the clearest examples of how regional beauty innovation can translate into global growth,” said Tara James Taylor, SVP, Global Beauty Personal Care Vertical, NIQ. “Its success is built on speed, cultural relevance and the ability to turn innovation into everyday habits. More importantly, it shows how beauty brands now need to read emerging regional signals earlier, understand how consumer demand is shifting, and act faster across markets. The next phase of growth will come from expansion into adjacent categories such as wellness and haircare, and from scaling across high-growth regions like Latin America and the Middle East.”

Beyond Korea and China, K-Beauty sales across the wider Asia-Pacific region increased 27%, reflecting continued momentum in international markets.

According to NIQ, the rise of K-Beauty illustrates a broader shift in the beauty industry, where regional innovation increasingly shapes global trends. The report said brands that can identify emerging consumer preferences early and respond quickly across markets are likely to be best positioned for future growth.
