Google has expanded its AI transparency efforts by rolling out labels that identify advertisements created or edited using artificial intelligence across its advertising platforms.
Users can now see a “created or edited with AI” disclosure in Google’s “My Ad Center” panel for ads shown on Google Search, YouTube and Discover. The panel can be accessed by clicking the three-dot menu or information icon on an advertisement.
The feature automatically labels ads produced using Google’s own generative AI advertising tools. Advertisements created with third-party AI tools require advertisers to manually disclose the use of AI. In some regions, the disclosure may also appear directly on the advertisement.
The rollout is part of Google’s broader push to improve transparency as AI-generated content becomes increasingly common in digital advertising.
The company has already introduced disclosure requirements for synthetic or digitally altered political advertisements and has expanded access to technologies such as SynthID and C2PA content credentials, which help identify AI-generated or manipulated content.
The latest update aligns Google with other major technology platforms that have introduced AI content disclosures. Meta, for instance, also labels AI-generated advertising through the “About this ad” section on its platforms.
