Repton Dubai has announced that Year 11 student Radu Pop, 16, has independently released his original single, Keeps on Turning, on Spotify and other global streaming platforms.
Originally from Romania, Radu wrote, performed, produced and engineered the song himself after spending more than four years developing his musical skills.
The track explores themes of resilience, self-reflection and personal growth, encouraging listeners to persevere through challenges and embrace change. According to the school, the song draws inspiration from bands such as Tears for Fears and TOTO while reflecting Radu’s own musical style.
A multi-instrumentalist, Radu performed all the instruments featured on the track, including piano, guitar, drums, bass, saxophone and vocals. He is largely self-taught and handled every stage of the song’s creation, from writing the lyrics and composing the music to recording and production.
Music has been a significant part of Radu’s life from an early age. Inspired by his father, who is also a musician, he developed an interest in songwriting and recording while growing up surrounded by musical instruments.
Alongside his studies at Repton Dubai, Radu spends his time pursuing both music and tennis. The single’s release on Spotify has enabled him to share his work with listeners worldwide and gain experience in the music industry.
Commenting on the release, Radu said: “I wanted the song to remind people that life keeps moving forward, even when things don’t go as planned. Everyone faces challenges and moments of uncertainty, but growth comes from learning, adapting and continuing to move forward. Seeing people connect with the song has been incredibly rewarding and has motivated me to keep creating music.”
The school said the song has received positive feedback from friends, classmates and members of the wider community, who have praised its message and production quality.
Peter Hopkins, Music Teacher at Repton Dubai, said: “Radu’s achievement is a wonderful example of what can be accomplished through passion, commitment and self-motivation. To independently write, perform, record and produce an original song at such a young age is incredibly impressive. He is a talented young musician with a genuine love for his craft, and we are delighted to see him sharing his work with audiences around the world.”
Radu is currently working on new material and hopes to release more music in the coming months, with plans to potentially release a full album later this summer.
The school said his achievement reflects the opportunities available to students to pursue their interests beyond the classroom and demonstrates how dedication and creativity can help young people share their talents with a global audience.
