Google will restrict access to its Gemini artificial intelligence models for users without paid subscriptions from October 9, limiting them to the Flash-Lite model as the company adjusts access across its subscription tiers.
Under the revised structure, users without a Google AI subscription will lose access to Flash and Pro, which were previously available alongside Flash-Lite.
Google AI Plus subscribers will retain access to Flash-Lite and Flash but will no longer be able to use Pro. The company said it would notify affected subscribers by email when the changes take effect on their accounts.
Subscribers to Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra will continue to have access to all three models: Flash-Lite, Flash and Pro. They will also retain access to Deep Think, a feature designed to handle complex tasks through advanced parallel reasoning.
The changes introduce a clearer separation between Google’s free and paid AI offerings, with access to more advanced models tied to higher subscription tiers.
