Google Cloud on Friday launched a new Gemini agent designed to handle knowledge work, create content, write and run code, and carry out tasks autonomously across business systems.
The agent can operate within Google Workspace applications, including Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Chat and Calendar, using shared memory, skills and controls to coordinate work across platforms, the company said at its Gemini at Work 2026 event in Dubai.
Google Cloud Chief Executive Thomas Kurian said the agent could plan tasks, use tools, connect to enterprise systems and deliver completed work within existing applications, with built-in cost controls and security and governance features.
The company said nearly 80% of its customers were using its artificial intelligence products, while nearly 90% of Fortune 100 companies used Gemini Enterprise.
The agent can function as a personal assistant or a team member, carrying out assigned objectives, scheduling tasks and responding to events. It can also coordinate multiple specialized agents to handle complex workflows that may run for hours or days.
Google Cloud is expanding Gemini’s integration with enterprise software, databases and development tools, including Salesforce, ServiceNow, Microsoft Office, Slack, Jira, BigQuery and Snowflake. Organizations can also create and share custom skills that guide the agent through specific workflows.
The company is introducing new data and analytics capabilities that allow business users to generate operational reports using plain-language requests, while data engineers can use Gemini to generate code, train models and troubleshoot data pipelines.
Google Cloud also outlined security measures for enterprise agents, including individual identities, role-based permissions, audit trails and a sandboxed execution environment designed to enforce company policies.
The launch comes as technology companies seek to move generative AI beyond answering questions and producing content towards systems that can execute multistep tasks with limited human intervention.
Google Cloud said its latest TPU 8i system delivers 80% better price-performance than the previous generation, supporting the execution of complex AI tasks at lower cost.
