UAE Influencers Risk AED 10,000 Fine for Missing Advertiser Permit Deadline

Content creators and advertisers operating in the UAE have until January 31, 2026 to obtain the mandatory Advertiser Permit, failing which they could face fines of up to AED 10,000 for posting promotional content without approval.

The requirement, introduced by the UAE Media Council, is aimed at regulating digital advertising, improving transparency, and professionalising the country’s fast-growing content creation ecosystem.

The Advertiser Permit applies to individuals who publish any form of promotional material online, including paid advertisements, brand collaborations, sponsored posts, gifted products, and promotions carried out without payment or as a favour. Permit holders must clearly display their permit number on their social media accounts and are prohibited from allowing third parties to advertise through their platforms, regardless of follower count or reach.

While the permit is free for the first three years, it becomes mandatory after a three-month grace period for anyone involved in online advertising activities.

Who must apply

The regulation applies to a broad range of individuals, including:

  • Influencers engaged in sponsorships or brand partnerships

  • Creators posting paid or gifted promotional content

  • Freelancers running or boosting ads through personal accounts

  • Individuals promoting products or services for others, even without payment

The rule applies to both UAE residents and visitors. Visitors intending to post promotional content must obtain a Visitor Advertiser Permit through a licensed agency. This permit is valid for three months and can be renewed once.

Application process

Eligible individuals can apply for the permit through the UAE Media Council’s official website.

Exemptions

Not all online activity requires an Advertiser Permit. Individuals promoting their own products or services through personal accounts are exempt. Creators under the age of 18 are also exempt if their content is educational, cultural, or awareness-focused and complies with UAE media regulations.

Validity and conditions

  • UAE citizens and residents: Valid for one year, renewable

  • Visitors: Valid for three months, renewable once

  • Cost: Free for the first three years

Applicants must be at least 18 years old, have no prior media violations, and, if resident, hold a valid electronic media trade licence. Visitors must apply through licensed talent or advertising agencies. Certain advertisements may also require additional approvals depending on the nature of the product or service.

Penalties

Creators who continue to post promotional content without a permit after January 31, 2026 risk fines that have previously reached AED 10,000, with penalties varying by emirate.

With the deadline approaching, authorities are urging creators and advertisers to secure the permit in time to avoid disruptions and remain compliant with UAE media regulations.
