Shadow banned and underpaid? Million promises creators control

Content creators face increasing challenges on traditional platforms—limited monetization, shadowbanning, censorship, and the rise of AI-driven content.
In a TOD podcast at the Web Summit in Qatar, Julien Hawari, CEO of Million, explains how the platform addresses these issues by giving creators ownership of their content, data, and revenue streams, from pay-per-view to renting and podcasting. TOD, a subscription-based OTT platform launched by beIN Media Group, delivers exclusive access to premium sports and entertainment streaming across MENA and Turkey.

Taking the point further, Hawari explains that focusing on emotion-driven storytelling, Million helps creators produce long-form, engaging content that stands out in an AI-saturated landscape. The platform is expanding globally, integrating local payment systems to reach unbanked populations, and redistributing 70 percent of ad revenue back to users—redefining the traditional monetization model.

With the Middle East market evolving rapidly, Million sees a massive opportunity for professional, high-quality creators to thrive amidst commoditized content and emerging AI influencers. Hawari emphasizes that while AI can produce “snackable” content, human emotion is crucial for longer formats, deeper engagement, and true differentiation. Emotion is seen as the “money maker” for creators, says Hawari.

According to Hawari, AI is the big accelerator and the big shock. More than 80 percent of creators say they now use generative AI for editing, ideation, or asset creation, and this pushes the ecosystem fully into the age of abundance: content is cheap, fast, and everywhere.

“That means the real differentiator is not “who posts the most,” but who can consistently create emotion, trust, and real connection with an audience. This is exactly where Million is positioned: for creators who work hard on their craft and storytelling and now need a serious home to turn that emotional bond into recurring, owned revenue.”
