Buffalo launches multimillion-dollar tourism rebrand to boost national appeal

Buffalo, New York, has unveiled a major new tourism brand and advertising campaign as part of efforts to revitalise its visitor economy and reshape perceptions of the city across the United States.

Launched by Visit Buffalo, the multimillion-dollar initiative — titled “That’s Buffalo For You” — marks the largest brand redevelopment in the organisation’s four-decade history. The campaign targets key U.S. markets including Boston, Washington D.C. and Chicago, using a mix of digital, video, outdoor and social media advertising to drive national visibility.

The rebrand introduces an updated logo and messaging rooted in local pride, shaped through consultations with artists, entrepreneurs and community leaders. The campaign highlights Buffalo’s contrasts through themes such as “Polished Grit,” “Refreshingly Spicy,” and “Historically New,” spotlighting the city’s industrial heritage, evolving food scene and renewed cultural institutions.

With tourism contributing an estimated $2.7 billion annually to the local economy, the campaign aims to position Buffalo as a vibrant cultural destination and attract a new generation of visitors.
