UAE digital lender Wio Bank has launched the country’s first bank account designed specifically for content creators, underscoring the Gulf state’s push to formalize and scale its fast-growing creator economy.
The product, called Wio Creators, is aimed at freelancers and digital creators who typically operate outside traditional corporate structures but increasingly generate cross-border income.
The account is offered through Wio Business and allows creators to open an account entirely online, without a minimum balance, and access invoicing tools, virtual cards and multi-currency accounts in dirhams, dollars, pounds and euros.
Wio said the service is designed to address common barriers creators face in accessing banking, including licensing complexity and payment management.
The launch comes as the UAE seeks to position itself as a regional hub for digital media, influencers and creative entrepreneurship, supported by government-backed initiatives and events targeting the creator economy.
Wio said the product was developed following a study of creator needs, which highlighted demand for simplified onboarding, automated billing and seamless integration with global payment systems. Visa is providing payment infrastructure for the account.
Tarek Abdalla, Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer for Central and Eastern
Europe, Middle East, and Africa (CEMEA) at Visa, commented: “The creator economy is one
of the fastest-growing and most dynamic cultural and business opportunities globally, yet many
creators still face barriers when it comes to reliable financial access.”
“By powering the Wio Creators solution through Visa’s global network, we are helping ensure that every transaction is backed by world-class security and global acceptance, enabling creators across the region to operate and scale their businesses, and to pay and be paid with confidence.”
