Cartoon Network has greenlit two additional seasons of its animated comedy series The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball for international audiences. Seasons three and four will comprise a total of 40 new episodes, extending the show’s imaginative storytelling and distinctive visual style.
Produced by Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, the series builds on the legacy of The Amazing World of Gumball, combining multiple animation techniques such as 2D and 3D animation, CGI, puppetry, photorealism, and live action. The quarter-hour episodes are created and executive produced by Ben Bocquelet and are known for their sharp meta-humour and bold visual experimentation.
Since its launch, The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball has performed strongly across Cartoon Network’s international channels and has built a loyal fanbase on digital platforms including YouTube, TikTok, and Roblox. The series continues to engage children and families worldwide, reinforcing its status as one of Cartoon Network’s most innovative animated properties.
“The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball has proven completely irresistible to families and fans across the globe, making it the easiest of decisions to say an emphatic yes to this new season.” said Vanessa Brookman, GM, International Kids, Animation and Franchise. “I am thrilled to continue to work with Ben, Sarah and the hugely talented Gumball team on bringing more Wonderful Weirdness to our Cartoon Network audiences internationally.”
Sarah Fell, SVP & Studio Head, Hanna-Barbera Studios Europe, said: “Gumball has been a massive success for the studio and it’s been so gratifying to see fans enthusiastically welcome these characters back to their screens. Ben Bocquelet, Erik Fountain, Matt Layzell, and the incredibly creative team were instrumental to its success, and I’m excited we get to deliver even more wonderful weirdness. Thankfully, this time fans won’t have to wait seven years.”
The Wonderfully Weird World of Gumball continues the franchise’s tradition of humorous storytelling that reflects the imperfect realities of growing up, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary. The series follows the misadventures of the eccentric Watterson family, their classmates at Elmore Junior High, and the quirky residents of the fictional town of Elmore.
The Gumball franchise was originally launched in 2011, after creator Ben Bocquelet transformed a collection of rejected commercial characters into what would become one of the most beloved animated series globally. Several characters in Elmore are inspired by Bocquelet’s own family.
