New Sustainability Reporting Regulations in the UAE and Their Impact on Sport

The UAE’s new Climate Law marks a turning point for sport. For the first time, every organisation will be required to measure, report, and act on its environmental impact.

In sport, improvement begins with knowing the score. The same is true for sustainability. Without a clear baseline, there is no way to track progress or meet the new reporting requirements. Establishing this foundation will be the first and most important step for sports organisations.

Traditionally, many have turned to external consultants to help measure sustainability. While effective, this approach is often costly and time-consuming, with fees that can run into the tens of thousands and timelines stretching over months. For many organisations, these barriers have prevented meaningful action from even beginning.

As the regulations take effect, the role of the sustainability manager is also evolving. No longer seen only as an operational or CSR function, sustainability is now central to compliance, risk management, and even commercial growth. Failing to comply is no longer a matter of image — it carries real financial and reputational risks.

At the same time, knowing what “good” looks like remains a challenge. With new standards and expectations emerging, even experienced teams struggle to define benchmarks and frameworks that reflect best practice. Without clear guidance, it is easy to fall short of regulatory requirements and stakeholder expectations.

The Climate Law represents both a challenge and an opportunity. Those who act early will not only ensure compliance but also strengthen their reputation, unlock new sponsorship opportunities, and deepen fan engagement. Those who delay risk being left behind.

This is why Sports Impact exists: to bring together the best in sports sustainability, showcase proven approaches, share essential skills, and ensure organisations are ready for the UAE’s new Climate Law.
