Mustafa Al Abdullah, the man behind Middle East’s latest hit song “Taal” – is also a music director , songwriter and composer who is believed to be on his way to reinventing the music landscape. Through his work, Abdullah is keen on putting  Iraqi musicians on the global map through changing the Iraqi music scene. The song Taal has become a Youtube hit with around 2.7 million likes.

We speak to him to understand more of his work.

What do you aim to achieve with your music?

Nietzsche, the German philosopher said, “Without music, life would be a mistake,” while this holds its truth, music being broadcasted for decades now has become corrupted and the intake of this in society is leading to dangerous effects on culture, values, principles and thoughts-hence, we see the result of these effects in the behavior. Personally, my objective is to break this chain and broadcast love and joy through my musical works. I want to promote it to a level that has a healing and meditation effect, music that helps people and allows them to emerge from negative thoughts of life.

I have always felt that I had a mission in life that I need to achieve to perfection. I followed my passion and when a person does that, they are on their way to completing their mission. My mission in Iraq is to show Iraq the way it is, ina ll its greatness and beauty, the land of civilization and the birthplace of many artforms and artists. Iraq, before it was destroyed by wars.

What are you changing with your music?

The change aforementioned, is in the collective consciousness level of the negative thoughts and beliefs about life and love. I aim to shift the concentration from violence and ugliness to mercy and beauty.

How do you come up with the creatives of your work?

I do not depend on a certain source, it might be a book, an article, a photo, a cause, a personal experience, other experiences, a poem etc.

What do you think is the most important component of  your work?

The most important part of my work is to be 100 percent committed and to apply the idea on the field of work. I consider this to be the backbone of my job.

Why do you think your music is spreading? Is there a reason you think people are connecting with you?

In my opinion, the reason is intention. Having the intention and the will to work, pushes me and becomes the reason of my work. When the intention is sincere and kind, the results it yields will be massive and effective. I strongly believe that if you want something, do it the right way and earn your respect with passion and love for the art.

What do you wish to see change within the creative of the music industry?

I wish that every person working in the field of art and music, knows that they are responsible for everything they produce for the audience. Art and music is food for the soul, adulterating it is poisonous for people.
