In the last week of January 2015, Twitter delivered on its promise of introducing new features on the platform. This includes:
Surface relevant tweets
Since Twitter is a real-time platform, users who are not checking it every few minutes of the day can miss out on a lot. To fill this gap, Twitter will surface the best tweets that users may have missed based on engagement and “other factors”, explains the company in a blog post. For users who check in to Twitter app frequently, will the recaps less, whereas those who don’t check Twitter frequently will see more recaps. On January 21, the company said that “recaps, marked with a “While you were away” heading, will begin to appear for all Twitter for iOS users today, and on our Android app and twitter.com soon”.
Group direct messages
So far, Twitter allowed only one-to-one direct messaging but this new feature will allow users to have private conversations in groups. In its blog post, Twitter explains that the group functions allows users to start conversations with any of their followers and they don’t all need to follow one another in order to chat. Twitter for iPhone users will be able to upload videos from the camera roll as well – a feature that will be available on the Android app soon. Here’s more information on the new mobile video camera.
