Back in June 2017, GroupM announced the merger of Maxus and MEC into a new agency, which came to life in September 2017 in the form of Wavemaker. The newly formed agency combines new media, content and technology.
The brand, along with a new visual identity, went live in January 2018 with offices in 90 countries and over 8,500 employees.
Almost a year after the announcement, Wavemaker has appointed Rabinder Thirumurthy, also known as Rabe Iyer, as CEO for the MENA region. Iyer was previously the managing director of GroupM India media agency Motivator, based in Delhi. He is relocating to Dubai to officially join Wavemaker on June 10.
Ajit Varghese, Wavemaker’s global president of market development, who made the announcement, says, “I’ve known Rabe since he joined Motivator and I’ve always been impressed by his commitment to excellence. He’s a proven leader with strong business acumen and I’m sure that he, together with our fantastic leadership team across the region, is perfectly positioned to make Wavemaker MENA a formidable future-facing agency.”
Filip Jabbour, CEO of GroupM MENA, adds, “Rabe is a great plus for Wavemaker; he has the skill, the vision and the deep understanding of our industry to lead and grow our business in the region.”
