After having kept us waiting for two years, Instagram (IG) has finally released its online shopping tags in three countries in the MENA region: KSA, UAE, and Lebanon.
Online shopping has evolved in the past couple of years within our region, with users and business owners finding Internet increasingly practical and user-friendly to shop and sell; whether it’s in the office, at home, or anywhere on your phone.
Instagram’s new feature will allow businesses with dedicated Facebook business sales teams to set prices for their products on their social platforms pages. The tags facilitate an online shopping opportunity for users, allowing them to better discover the products on display. IG has been quite successful with this feature ever since its launch in 2017. Business owners and IG shoppers alike have found it easy to use.
According to Facebook Business, 70% of shopaholics turn to IG looking for products, and around 130 million users tap on a shopping post for product details every month.
Spot the shop
It’s a no brainer; Instagram has made it even easier for online shoppers to be able to distinguish tagged products from the untagged ones. A small shopping bag will appear on the post. Once you go to the post, you tap and the details will pop up. The shopping tags, once clicked, will redirect you to the business’ website for more information on the product.
We will be hearing more from Instagram in the upcoming weeks on additional shopping features. This is indeed good news to business owners, agencies, and Instagram shoppers in the region.
